TULSA, Okla. — On behalf of the Osage Hotel and Casino, we presented the Adams family with a staycation package.
It includes an overnight stay at Osage Casino and Hotel with a $50 dinner gift certificate.
The parents of five-year-old Allen Adams were very surprised and grateful for the act of kindness.
"I appreciate everything. It has been difficult, but everyone has been making things so much easier for us," Samantha Cooper, Allen's mother, said. "I'm so grateful and so thankful, and I can't wait for the time that I can give back."
Allen's mom and dad have been through a lot. Doctors diagnosed their son Allen with Hyperoxaluria in 2018.
The condition wears down his kidneys and liver, and Allen needs two kidneys and a liver, but his mom says he never lets it get him down.
"He's always really happy," Cooper said. "So, my biggest fear would be to lose him."
Allen's father left his job to help care for his son.
Todd Adams and Allen's mom drive to Oklahoma City six days a week so their son can have dialysis.
The family's car gave out a few months ago because of the stress on their car. Now they have to rely on rides from a charity.
On top of everything else, the family has expensive medical bills for the treatment that keeps their son alive.
"There is a ton of stress at times," Adams said. "And it gets hard at times. So to be able to breathe sometimes would be nice."
Now, with possible organ transplants ahead, there is new hope for Allen, and a chance to be a kid again.
And thanks to Osage Casino Hotel, a much-needed break for his tired, but grateful parents.
"I just want to say thank you to everyone that has helped us, that has come together," Cooper said. "They don't even know us, and for them to help us is like God is reaching out."
