TIAWAH, Okla. -- The proceeds from a firework stand in rural Rogers County will go to the volunteer Tiawah Fire Department to help with yearly costs.

The stand is located just off Highway 88 outside of Claremore. A sign off the highway leads to the stand.

“What else do you want to support?" volunteer Tiawah firefighter Joe Clark said. "I mean we are what keeps you safe.”

There are hundreds of different fireworks to choose from. Prices vary based on size.

“There is not a paid person on this department," Clark said. "Everybody here is volunteer.”

The profits help expenses for the next year.

“So we have money to send our new firefighters to classes," volunteer Tiawah firefighter Walter Key said.

The department relies on donations every year. They’re one of the only departments left in the state that are non-tax based.

“We don’t have the option of like a big city getting so much money a year," Clark said.

The heat didn't prevent customers from stopping by.

“You’re depending on everyone else to fund your department every year," Clark said.

The stand will be open July 5th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
