We have gotten questions about this before, but wanted to revisit it now that weather is getting warmer. We know mosquitoes can transmit viruses like Zika and West Nile. What about COVID-19?
One viewer asked the problem solvers, “Is it possible to spread the virus through mosquitoes?”
According to officials from the Tulsa Health Department, “American Mosquito Control Association has stated that at this time mosquitoes CANNOT transmit COVID-19.”
American Mosquito Control Association also states that for a virus to pass to a person through a mosquito or tick bite, the virus must be able to replicate inside the mosquito or tick, which it has not.
Furthermore, information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says, “At this time, CDC has no data to suggest that this new coronavirus or other similar coronaviruses are spread by mosquitoes or ticks. The main way that COVID-19 spreads is from person to person.”
