FAIRMONT, Okla. (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a plane crash that killed two men near Fairmont in northern Oklahoma.

The Runyan/Harris Skybolt 300 experimental aircraft crashed about 6:40 p.m. last Thursday, killing 55-year-old pilot Randall Lee Harris of Owasso and 25-year-old Lt. Dale Bryan Shillington of Vance Air Force Base in Enid.

The NTSB report says a witness told investigators he saw the airplane performing aerobatic maneuvers including a barrel roll and tumbling before it rolled over into an inverted flat spin, then disappeared behind trees.

The witness said he heard the airplane engine running until he heard the sound of it crash into the ground.

A final report that includes a possible cause of the crash generally takes several months to complete.
