TULSA, Okla. — Distribution providing personal protective equipment (PPE) for schools started Friday.

Officials delivered the first round of shipments to regional sites in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. This is part of Governor Kevin Stitt’s initiative to help schools reopen safely for the new school year.

PPE delivered to these two distribution sites includes masks, gloves, gowns and face shields for all K-12 schools in seven counties: Canadian, Cleveland, Logan, McClain, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie, and Tulsa. Deliveries for the remaining counties will continue Monday to get PPE into schools as quickly as possible.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) is coordinating the delivery of the school PPE orders to 11 regional sites across the state in coordination with the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Oklahoma State Department of Health, and municipal, county and tribal emergency managers.

“Purchasing and delivering millions of items of PPE is no small task,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “I know Director Mark Gower and the Department of Emergency Management have been working tirelessly to get these masks and other equipment to our schools as fast as possible and I am proud of their efforts. I also want to thank our local emergency managers for answering the call to serve their communities once again as we work together to protect our students and teachers.”

“In emergency management, we often rely on partnerships and this project would truly not be possible without the partnership of emergency managers from cities, towns, counties and tribes across the state,” said OEM Director Mark Gower. “These emergency managers have stepped up time and time again throughout the COVID-19 emergency to make sure we could meet the needs of our schools, first responders, election boards and more.”
