Two Muskogee police departments said the demand is high for active shooter training courses following the shooting in Las Vegas.
Police at Bacone College said its offering free courses at its campus.
“I want people to walk away with the feeling that they’re no longer going to be a victim. If something like this happens they have the tools to protect themselves and their family and how to do it properly,” said Lieutenant Roger Posey with the Bacone College Police Department.
For the past three years, the Muskogee police department offered its active shooting training course to schools, churches and businesses.
Because of the demand, the department is planning a larger class for the public to attend.
“We’ll talk to anybody. We’ll talk to a class of two people. We’ll talk to a class of two thousand,” said Sergeant Christopher Dean with the Muskogee Police Department.
“We feel that we rather get ahead of it—we don’t want to be a town that waits until the event happens that we go, ‘maybe we should prepare.’ Said Dean.
The Muskogee Police Department said it will go anywhere in the eastern half of Oklahoma to offer its free active shooter training course.
