Police arrested the man responsible for taking care of a child who was found unresponsive Monday night.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tulsa police found a two-month-old girl unresponsive at the Ashford Overlook Apartments off 33rd West Avenue.
The person who made the 911 call told police that the baby went into cardiac arrest after falling off a couch.
The child's 20-year-old mother was at work during the incident, and her 21-year-old fiancé, Joseph Bunnell, was at home taking care of the baby as well as two other young children.
According to official documents, the child was found with multiple contusions to the front and back of its head as well as bruising and scrapes on the child’s arms and legs. The report goes to note that trash, clothes and old food littered the residence where the child was found. Police say the injuries on the baby’s face are indicative of “no accidental trauma.”
Police took the mother and fiance to the detective division downtown for questioning. Joseph Bunnell was arrested on a felony complaint of child neglect and abuse of a child. Police say his story was “not consistent” with bruises found on the child’s body.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Those results should be available in a couple of weeks.
