According to the Independence Police Department Facebook page, a cougar has escaped from the Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo in Independence, Kansas.
Police say, park officials and law enforcement are searching the area for the cougar.
Citizens are being told to take extreme caution and if they see the cougar, to call 911 immediately, the post says.
Police are encouraging the public to avoid the area.
Police say they will continue to update their facebook page and website with any further information.
