PITTSBURG COUNTY -  A man is behind bars after authorities say he assaulted a woman in her own vehicle.

According to the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office, David Cox was arrested Sunday when deputies found him driving the victim's car along Highway 270, just east of Hartshorne.

Deputies responded to an attempted kidnapping call along this highway Sunday morning. Officials say Cox asked the woman for a ride, then forced her to let him drive.

The victim jumped out of the vehicle when, she says, Cox threatened to rape her. Cox took off with the vehicle and was later stopped by deputies. A knife was found in his vehicle.

He was booked into jail and charged with kidnapping, robbery with a weapon, larceny of an automobile and two counts of sexual battery.

He is expected to appear in court Friday.
