BROKEN ARROW -- Imagine looking at large piles of trash every time you walk out your front door. That's been one Broken Arrow couple's view for months.
As the sun sets, Ron and Elaine McConnell think about the past while sitting on the porch swing.
“I served in the Vietnam War from 1974-1979," McConnell said. “I trained officers how to fly.”
The vet knows a little about cleanliness, after all he was taught firsthand in the Navy.
“The work ethic of some people is just not as good as it used to be," McConnell said.
Their eyes venture across the street.
“A lot of it is clothes, box springs, toys and you know it’s just trash," Elaine McConnell said.
Months ago, the homeowners moved out. A sticker was put on the garage and there became a new property owner. The McConnell’s called.
“We thought, 'well this will be fine,'" McConnell said. "We’ll get it taken care of.”
“We gave them a deadline of Friday that it should be cleaned up and it wasn’t cleaned up and hasn’t been touched and this was last Friday," the veteran said.
With Christmas approaching, the homeowners of more than 30 years want the neighborhood to shine bright.
“Everyone is going to light up their homes and make the area look nice," McConnell said. “It’s pushing our market value in our area and if someone was looking for a home in this area that would take their desire away to see something like that.”
