OWASSO, Okla. — Owasso High School is not only winning on the football field, but also bringing home wins with its fine arts program.

In fact, this summer, two Owasso students got a chance to shine bright in the Big Apple, representing the school and Tulsa at the Jimmy Awards.

Owasso junior Axyle Langford described her feelings when she was chosen saying, "It was like I was ecstatic. When they announced my name that I was going to the Jimmy Awards, it was kind of like my whole body just like shut down. It was crazy."

J.J. Willis was the other student that got a chance to go to New York. He too was ecstatic when his name was called.

The Jimmy Awards are like the Tony's, but for high school students. Both Langford and Willis say the experience was one they will never forget.

"At the Jimmy's, I grew so much, because you're with people that are talented," Langford said. "You're just constantly learning and growing."

Both students say the arts program at Owasso High School has helped them learn their craft and grow as people.

"I honestly think like the drama department has opened a lot of doors and just kind of helped me a lot." Langford explains.

"This department is like a family," Willis said. "It's all people who love each other and support we are all here to make each other look good."
