An Owasso couple is celebrating life as newlyweds after a unique drive-in wedding, and their special day is showing how the kind hearts of Oklahomans are shining through during a time of uncertainty.

Shelby and Colton Adams originally set their wedding date for September.

The venue was booked and plans were made, but when Shelby overcame some health issues, the couple didn't want to wait to say their I dos.

"Shelby came up with the idea of having a drive-in wedding where we first met," Colton said.

As many couples postpone their nuptials, the Adams' did the opposite, sticking with their April plans while still practicing social distancing.

"It did bring joy to a lot of people during all the craziness of COVID-19," SHelby said. "Of course our plans for April fourth didn't go as planned, but they were so special, and it's a day I wouldn't redo if we had the chance."

They had a few of their loved ones park vehicles and stay in their cars to watch them wed.

"We were just trying to follow the mayors executive order and keep people safe," Colton said. "I'm a Tulsa police officer and we didn't want to cause undo harm, but we wanted to live our lives and enjoy this moment."

Local businesses and family members stepped in to make the day all the more special.

"People have just been so nice and giving. There were two ladies both named Stephanie, and they were so kind. They just loved that we had a drive in wedding and they paid for our meal and they gave us cake," Shelby said. "My little sister turned our little one bedroom apartment into a honeymoon suite. It's just really really special to see how in the tough times, it's brought everyone together."

Shelby says they felt it heavy on their hearts to do something small and intimate, and she's glad they did.

They still have their venue for September and plan to celebrate with extended family then.
