Owasso holds memorial for Buckner family

Posted

OWASSO, Okla. – The community is invited to come together Tuesday and remember the lives of those found dead in their Phoenix home.

The Buckners, 50-year-old Vic Buckner, 49-year-old Kimberly Buckner, 18-year-old Kaitlin Buckner and six-year-old Emma Buckner, were found dead in February. Phoenix police say they were killed by 26-year-old Alex Buckner, who allegedly shot them.

Relatives of the Buckner’s say Alex didn’t have a history of violence but he did suffer from mental health problems. According to them, it’s possible he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

According to 2 Work for You sister station, KNXV, the Buckners previously lived in Owasso and this week the community is holding an open memorial for them.

In a Facebook message sent out via Owassoisms, those interested in attending are encouraged to meet at Elm Creek Park from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In the message, those attending are asked to wear Batman, Victoria Secret PINK brand, Fast and the Furious or any type of vehicle apparel in honor of each Buckner family member. For those bringing small children, the message suggests having them wear something Disney to remember the youngest family member Emma.

There will also be a large book at the memorial to write down memories of the Buckners, as well as a place to donate money. The money is going towards a memorial bench to be placed in remembrance of the five Buckners, says the Facebook message.

“Update: Reader states event is Tuesday, March 1. This is an open invitation to remember and celebrate the lives of Kaitlin , Emma, Alex, Vic, and Kim Buckner from 6:30-8:30 pm at Elm Creek park. That is where Kaitlin and I (Kelsey) grew up playing together, walking the track, and enjoying time together. Kim and Vic took Emma to play here often. It was connected to the neighborhood they lived in before they moved to Arizona. We ask that you wear Batman, VS PINK, Fast and Furious, or any type of vehicle apparel. If bringing small children, we would love to see them wearing Disney (especially princesses or Frozen) as it was Emma's favorite. There will be a place to donate money that will be going towards a Bench to be placed at the park in the future in memory of all five members of the Buckner family. Thank you so much for your love, support, and prayers. There will be a large book at the memorial where you can write memories with any of the Buckner's or a note to the family and close friends that are missing them terribly. Also, if you have any pictures you would like to put in a memory book, please bring them with you ( preferably wallet or 4x6 sized photos) and there will be a book you can place it in. Please be respectful of the neighbors and park in designated areas or along streets, please do not block driveways. You may want carpool if possible.”
