STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University announced a new start date for their spring semester.

Officials said they are extending the holiday break by one week, causing the spring semester to begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. They said this will give students, staff, and faculty the best chance at finishing the term in person. Also, the university canceled Spring Break in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 due to it involving student travel.

As we look ahead to the completion of the fall semester, I want to commend our students, faculty and staff for remaining focused on doing your part to keep our campus community safe. This has been a challenging time but we have worked together diligently to deliver both in-person and online classes successfully. In the weeks and months ahead, we must remain mindful of the responsibility each of us has to our greater campus community to keep everyone well and safe. My highest priority is the health and wellbeing of our campus community while at the same time preserving our academic mission and providing our students with what they need to secure a quality education.
President of OSU, Burns Hargis

OSU officials announced previously students will finish the fall semster online and will not be returning to in-person classes after Thanksgiving break.

Officials said the start date change is an effort to help keep the OSU community, students, faculty and staff safe from the coronavirus.
