MCALESTER, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting.
The shooting happened in McAlester on Dec. 31st, said agents. According to OSBI, the McAlester Police Department received a call a man was attempting to harm himself.
When officers responded, they found 40-year-old Nicholas Halkias armed near the intersection of Main and Ottawa.
They said Halkias refused to listen to the officer's commands to drop his weapon and advanced on officers. This caused an officer to fire his gun, hitting Halkias. Halkias is in critical condition at a hospital.
The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released. This is an ongoing investigation.
