TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says its agents are investigating the shooting death by police of a hammer-wielding man in Tahlequah.

The OSBI says 49-year-old Dominic Rollice was pronounced dead at a hospital where he was taken after being shot by officers Friday night.

The agency says Tahlequah officers investigating a disturbance on the city's east side found Rollice and that he refused to leave the area.

The OSBI says Rollice picked up a hammer when police arrived, and he refused orders to put it down, then lunged at the officers and two officers opened fire.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting were not immediately released.
