OSBI arrests suspect in fatal Creek County shooting

Posted

SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Creek County man.

OSBI agents said Monday that 34-year-old Richard Dylan Vawter of Jennings was arrested Sunday night in Sand Springs. Vawter was booked into the Creek County Jail and online court records indicate he is being held on $5 million bond on a first-degree murder complaint. The records do not indicate if Vawter has an attorney.

Investigators say Vawter is a suspect in the shooting death of 61-year-old Ronald "Rocky" Bethel. Bethel was shot to death outside his Mannford home on Sept. 20.

Court records indicate that an arrest warrant was issued for Vawter on Friday. The OSBI says Vawter was apprehended by members of the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force.
