ORU students reaching out in their communities

TULSA, OK (KJRH) — The West Mabee Boys and Girls Club was just one of the places where dozens of students showed their support across Tulsa.

The whole day was centered on giving back to kids and their families, but for the volunteers who were working with kids for the first time, they say it was a much different experience.

ORU grad student Philip Girard spoke to the kids today, sharing his message about the hardships he's had to overcome.

"Being with boys and girls is a little different, because when you're with older people you have to talk to them a certain way, make it applicable to their lives," Girard said. "With kids, they want to know they're loved and they don't have much on their mind other than do you love me, do you care about me."

ORU students will continue to do outreach at places like Boys and Girls Clubs every week for the rest of the semester.
