Good news for Oklahomans with no health insurance or for those who are searching for lower costs on prescribed medication.
The Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy issued a license to an online pharmacy called Honey Bee Health. Oklahoma patients now have access to high quality and low-cost generic medication that can be shipped directly to their front door.
Honey Bee Heath was founded in 2017. The online pharmacy is HIPAA-accredited and provides over 6,000 generic prescription drugs to tens of thousands of patients in over 41 states.
The company doesn’t work with health insurance and are often able to provide lower costs than most copays or coinsurance. Honeybee works directly with wholesale distributors to purchase medication. The pharmacy states that they can find the lowest cost for every drug and then sell them directly to their customers.
For example, a patient prescribed a generic form of Lipitor (Atorvastatin) and who has health insurance would usually have around a $15 copay once a month. Through Honeybee the cost for the same medication is around $11 to $17 for three months.
“Generic prescription medications aren’t actually expensive and don’t require insurance for purchase, but Oklahoma patients haven’t been able to access them at a fair price until now,” said Dr. Jessica Nouhavandi, lead pharmacist, founder, and CEO of Honeybee Health. “We’re proud to be offering our services in Oklahoma and feel we’re arriving at a critical moment.
Even before the pandemic, many struggled to afford medication. Now with so many filing for unemployment, and losing their health insurance, paying for prescription costs has proven to be even more challenging.
The online pharmacy’s online process to order medication is simple. Patients can request that their doctor’s who are prescribing medication to find Honeybee Health in the electronic prescription system that is used in the United States or have their medication transferred, as one would if they were changing pharmacies.
Now, Oklahoma residents who are seeking treatment for, lupus, depression, anxiety, high cholesterol and so much more, can have access to lower drug costs and medication delivered directly to their home.
