TULSA COUNTY -- One person is dead Tuesday after a three-vehicle crash just north of the Tulsa city limits.
The crashed occurred just after noon on Whirlpool Drive just south of 76th Street North, approximately one and a half miles north of the Tulsa city limits, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Officials said the driver of an Acura traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound lane of Whirlpool Drive had to swerve to avoid the driver of a Dodge Caliber that had slowed down in the southbound lane to make a u-turn. Police said the the Acura driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a Honda CRV that was parked on the shoulder in the northbound lane of Whirlpool Drive.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Steven Freking, 59, of Gainesville, Texas, died after being taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Acura refused medical treatment on scene and the driver of the Dodge Caliber was not hurt.
The collision is under investigation.
