Oktaha schools switches to four-day weeks

Posted

OKTAHA, Okla. – Starting Friday, March 4 of this year, students at Oktaha schools will have a little extra time on their hands.

The school announced they plan to implement four day weeks, dismissing students every Friday or Monday from March 4 until the end of the year in May.

According to the Superintendent Jerry Needham, the school is preparing for an estimated three percent budget cut that could occur before the end of the school year.

Needham says that three percent translates to $100,000 for the Oktaha School district.

Overall, it is estimated the shortened school week should save approximately $100,000, says Needham.

The Supt. went on to say they have already released 11 full time support personnel since the holidays and have reduced administrator pay by five percent. The district has also reduced coaching extra duty pay by 5 percent and stopped purchasing technology and security, according to Needham.

Needham says they plan to use their built in snow days to accommodate having a four day week for the last ten weeks of the school year.
