TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Ten microfilm Bibles that traveled deep into space on board the Apollo NASA missions are locked in an Oklahoma court vault while a legal battle rages in two states over their rightful owner.
Eight of the 10 holy books in dispute landed on the surface of the moon in 1971, which makes them prized possessions for some.
The so-called "first lunar Bibles" are stored in the Tulsa County courthouse, awaiting a May 3 hearing over who rightfully owns them: a Texas agency or Tulsa author Carol Mersch.
Mersch has battled for six years with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services over their ownership. She says she'll donate some of the 10 Bibles to museums or seminaries around the world if she wins the case.
