OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City police arrested a suspect in connection to US Senate cadidate Abby Broyles hit and run accident.

A member of Broyles' campaign team said, on Aug. 12 Griffith McClure turned himself into OKC police for crashing into Broyles and driving away.

Broyles released a statement expressing her gratitude to the Oklahoma City Police Department.

I’m thankful for the hard work of the Oklahoma City police department to find the driver who hit me. I’m confident in law enforcement carrying out justice in this case. I’m still very sore; I’ve had multiple doctor visits and will have more over the next few weeks. Thankfully I have health insurance – thousands of Oklahomans do not, either because of lack of access or cost, or both. This is what we are fighting for in this campaign, but I didn’t think I would be giving a first-person example of the disparities in our healthcare system.

Broyles is still recovering after the hit and run accident.

The Democratic candidate's campaign team posted a picture on twitter explaining Broyles had been involved in an accident.

Broyles was on her way home from having dinner with a friend in northwest Oklahoma City when she was involved in a hit and run accident in the middle of an intersection, according to an official press release.

We are so thankful for the outpouring of support we’ve received for Abby today. She’s resting at home, recovering, and our main concern is making sure she doesn’t rush back too fast - something she is ready to do but doctors have told her to take some time.
