Oklahoma students taking different paths to get their degrees

Students across Green Country are taking different paths to earn their degree instead of landing at a four year college right out of high school.

Some students don't plan on attending a four year university at all.

Instead, they're starting career tracks in nursing before they even graduate high school.

2 Works For You spoke with students who are in Broken Arrow High School's dual credit enrollment program.

The first group of students are rising juniors taking classes with Tulsa Community College instructors at Northeastern State University's Broken Arrow Campus.

When the students graduate high school, they'll walk across the stage with a diploma and a associate's degree.

The plan is for those students to seamlessly transfer those credits into a four year campus like NSU, OU or OSU.

In Muskogee, 2 Works For You spoke with several students enrolled at Indian Capital Technology Center.

Administrators say there's a waiting list for high school students to enroll in the fast track nursing program at ICTC.

Within six months of graduating, ICTC nursing students will have their certificates to be a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Business Insider published a report in 2015 titled 'High-paying jobs you can get without a college degree'

Of the top 5 jobs they listed:

  1. Distribution managers
  2. Police supervisors
  3. Elevator installers / technicians
  4. Nuclear-power-reactor operators
  5. Detectives and Investigators.
