MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a state trooper narrowly escaped injury after a driver crashed into his unoccupied patrol car on the Muskogee Turnpike.

Authorities say Trooper Adam Wood's patrol car was in the left lane of the Muskogee Turnpike with its lights on when it was struck Tuesday night. The highway patrol says Wood had just finished assisting a motorist and was clearing debris from the shoulder of the road when he saw an SUV speeding toward his car.

The patrol says Wood jumped over the center wall to escape being hit. The SUV struck the patrol car, sending it more than 200 feet down the road. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was cited for inattentive driving and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
