OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma senator has filed a bill that would criminalize abortion and subject the procedure to the same laws governing homicides in the state.
Senate Bill 13, authored by Joseph Silk and filed Thursday, would prohibit the use of abortion in any circumstance.
"Any abortion procedure that results in the death of an unborn child is subject to the same laws governing homicide, manslaughter, justifiable homicide, and excusable homicide," an analysis of the bill reads.
Doctors, abortion clinics and counseling services would be unable to provide any services related to the abortion under the bill.
The measure's intent is to provide unborn children the equal protection of the laws of the state. Wrongful damages may be recovered by representatives of the deceased under the bill, officials said.
