The Oklahoma Blood Institute collected its first units of convalescent plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients.
The plasma will be used as an experiment to treat seriously ill coronavirus patients, according to a statement released by OBI officials.
After the FDA fast tracked the treatment, OBI created a statewide registry to catalog potential recovered donors.
The plasma will be processed and tested for safety. Once it's cleared, the plasma will be transfused to critically ill patients.
