PAYNE COUNTY, Okla. — Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they are seeking the public's help in the search for witnesses of a fatal car wreck near Stillwater on Wednesday.

On their Facebook page, OHP officials said the accident happened on State Highway 51, just east of State Highway 108 North around 12:38 p.m.

The accident, officials said, was caused when for unknown reasons, a Chevrolet Cobalt crossed the center median and crashed into a Chevrolet Malibu head-on.

The driver of the Malibu, Shelby Chatham, 48, was killed in the accident, officials said.

Officials said the Cobalt driver was hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators said they are searching for a pickup truck that was pulling a flatbed trailer, possibly gold in color.

A witness to the accident told investigators that the Cobalt was trying to pass the pickup when the accident occurred, officials said.

Anyone with information as to whom was driving the pickup truck is asked to call OHP Troop K at 580-336-9880.
