CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. — An Arkansas man died Wednesday morning and a Stilwell man is in critical condition after a crash with a semi, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says.

According to a collision report, Jimmy O’Neal, 62, of Evansville, Ark., was a passenger in a car involved in the three-vehicle crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene, which was 9 miles south of Tahlequah on State Highway 100.

The investigating trooper says Chase O’Neal, 20, of Stilwell, was attempting to pass another car on a curve in a no-passing zone and was struck by the semi.

Chase O’Neal was pinned in the car for about 15 minutes before he was extricated by the Cookson Fire Department. He was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, OHP says.

The driver of the other car, Karra Fourkiller, 21, of Stilwell, and the driver of the semi, Danniel Thayer, 44, of Porter, were not injured in the crash.

OHP says the O’Neals were not wearing seat belts, but Fourkiller and Thayer were.

The cause of the crash is listed as left of center in a no passing zone while passing. Chase O’Neal’s condition at the time of the crash is listed as “under investigation.”
