OG&E heads to Iowa to help with power outages from derecho

Oklahoma electric crews are heading to Iowa to help restore massive power outages from an overnight derecho storm, according to a company spokesperson.

It knocked out power to more than half a million customers at its peak and caused extensive damage in the Midwest.

Last week, OG&E crews helped restore power in New Jersey for 788,000 customers after Tropical Storm Isaias, the spokesperson said.

The crews will arrive in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday and they'll work to restore power on Thursday.
