I-244/23rd Str. bridge to be under construction

TULSA – The rehabilitation of a local bridge is expected to affect traffic until the year 2018, says ODOT.

The nearly $20 million rehabilitation project is of the Interstate 244 and 23rd Street bridge is expected to be underway this week. The project will impact traffic on the 23rd Street bridge until around 2018 and drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and adjust their route.

ODOT goes on to say that the project is going to focus on repairing the improving the safety, including the construction of a crash wall and reconfiguring three spans of the bridge. In addition to those fixes, it will also repair the substructure and the bridge deck will be replaced.

ODOT says the first phase of the work will close the 23rd Street bridge to traffic starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday; westbound Interstate 244 off ramp to 23rd Street will remain open during the first phase.

Those searching for a detour can use 21st Street South, 57th West Avenue, Interstate 44 and US-75, says ODOT.
