NOWATA COUNTY, Okla. -- Nowata County Sheriff Kenny Freeman has been arrested on a count of felony embezzlement.

A felony warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday. The embezzlement exceeded $1,000, officials said.

Court documents said in September, a Bartlesville Walmart store delivered about $25,000 worth of school supplies to the Nowata County Sheriff's Office, which was to be transferred to Nowata County schools, but Freeman misappropriated some of the items.

Court documents said at the Nowata County Fair, the Sheriff Office's both had coloring books, lunch boxes, crayons and markers that had been donated to schools.

Freeman acknowledged publicly that he had diverted at least some of the lunch boxes, which were passed out at the fair and a homecoming parade, documents said.

Court documents referenced the below Facebook post made by Freeman:

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation made the arrest at the Nowata County Courthouse. Freeman was booked into the Washington County Jail.
