Nowata County jailer accused of sexually assaulting inmate

NOWATA COUNTY, Okla. — A Nowata County jailer has been arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate.

Nowata County Sheriff Myrta Hallet requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation after the inmate reported on Thursday that she had been assaulted while in custody by Cody Lowen, 30.

Lowen was booked into the Washington County Jail on counts of first-degree forcible sodomy and rape by instrumentation.

Lowen was fired from his job as a jailer on April 30.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
