BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Bouquets of roses, sprinklings of baby's breath, and orchids over a foot tall are some of the items clients at A New Leafdeliver every year on Valentine's Day.
A New Leaf is a non-profit in Broken Arrow that focuses on vocational training, housing and self-confidence for people with special needs in the Tulsa area.
A 24-hour staff teach the facility's 350 clients various aspects of gardening in the campuses six greenhouses. The flowers and plants the clients plant and grow are sold in the facilities store.
Kim Lowe is a proud employee of A New Leaf. She's been a client of the facility for the past two years.
"I would come here even on weekends, if I could, because I've learned so many things about plants and everyone is nice," Lowe said. "I used to get bullied because of my disability and school. I used to feel so bad, but it's different now. I am happy here."
Lowe was one of the clients who put flower arrangements together to be delivered on Valentine's Day.
"I just love putting things together for people, because it makes me feel good," Lowe said. "I might not know the person I am giving it to when I deliver it, but I get to spread some love."
