TULSA – The doors of a new private school in north Tulsa have officially been opened for enrollment.

Drexel Academy located at 1st West 36th Street North, just east of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, is seeking students in grades K through second.

Enrollment meetings will be held Tuesday, June 14, 21 and the 28 at the school starting at 6 p.m. The school’s message identifies itself as a “ … limited enrollment, non-religious, character-based—only …” school.

“The school will provide a holistic education to students who have been underserved," said the school's principal, Amy Putman. "The goal is to nurture academic, social and emotional habits to empower our students to achieve their potential and encourage them to be leaders who give back to their communities.”

Drexel's statement says it will have extended school days and an extended school year with small class sizes, around 15 per class.

The first day of the upcoming school year is listed as August 17, says the school.
