MUSKOGEE COUNTY — Muskogee County Sheriff's Office announced their new Sheriff today.

Officials say Terry Freeman was appointed as the new Sheriff for Muskogee County.

Freeman was sworn in as the Sheriff of Muskogee County at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Officials say Freeman was served with the following agencies prior to being sworn in as the Sheriff of Muskogee County:

  • 1978-1980: Muskogee Police Department
  • 1980-2006: Oklahoma Highway Patrol
  • 2007-2010: Chief Deputy of the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office
  • 2010-2020: Undersheriff of the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office

Freeman has been a resident of Muskogee County for 42 years, officials say. His wife, Karen, is a retired elementary school teacher at Muskogee Public Schools. They have a daughter and two grandchildren, officials say.

Michael Crawford, his son-in-law, is a Captain with the Muskogee Police Department.

We first told you earlier this month, that current sheriff Rob Frazier is stepping down to become Police Chief in Fort Gibson.

Frazier's last day as Sheriff is today.

The Muskogee County Board of Commissioners interviewed four applicants.

Freeman will serve until this year's election, officials say.
