MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Making history in the city of Muskogee, voters elected the town's first Black mayor — Mayor-elect Marlon Coleman.

"I think right now, in this time of American history, it feels very symbolic and very humbling to be Muskogee's first Black mayor," Coleman said.

Coleman said this win says to him that Muskogee is willing to look past everything going on in other places, and come together as a community to vote on who they think is a better candidate, regardless of color or ethnicity.

He says now is the time for Muskogee to grow and prosper.

Coleman will be sworn in Monday.
