TULSA -- Officials say a man arrested in connection with a killing near Prattville in late May died Tuesday after attempting suicide in jail Sunday.

Officials said Darius Hatfield had wrapped a sheet around his neck in an attempt to kill himself at the Tulsa County Jail. EMSA officials responded, acquired a pulse, and took Hatfield to an area hospital.

Officials said Hatfield succumbed to his injuries Tuesday night.

Hatfield, 56, was being held without bond in the Tulsa County Jail.

Officials said Hatfield shot and killed his girlfriend, who was identified as Patricia Duff, 73.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office reported to a home in the 22000 block of West 48th Street around 5:30 on May 31. Deputies say Hatfield claimed his girlfriend had been shot in the face during a struggle over a gun on the back porch of the couple’s home.
