TULSA – According to investigators, Kristan Kirk attempted to set two separate fires Wednesday morning while her children were asleep inside.
Tulsa Police said Kirk left the apartment for a couple of hours with the burners on the stove and microwave running with metal inside. When she came back, they said she noticed there wasn’t a fire, so officers said she tried a second time and left again. Investigators said maintenance workers heard the smoke alarm going off and made their way into the apartment. That’s when they found Kirk’s 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter alone inside. Police said the kids told them their mom was trying to kill them. When Kirk came home, police said she told officers she wanted her kids to die.

“She had heard some voices or something that told her the kids were evil and she needed to take care of it and so she was attempting to set fire to the apartment while the kids were asleep,” Tulsa Police Child Crisis Cpl. Greg Smith.

Kirk’s children are now in DHS custody. She is facing charges of child neglect and 1st degree arson.

According to the maintenance worker, he recently fixed the smoke detectors in Kirk’s apartment days before she tried to kill her kids.
