Stillwater Police Department have a warning about marijuana edibles on their Facebook page. The department talks about their rise in popularity. But a Green County mother says marijuana edibles led to tragedy with her son.

Kim Goodman says her son Luke was loved by so many. She says the actions he took one night changed her outlook on the legalization of marijuana.

"He had the biggest, warmest smile," she said. "He was so giving and loving and full of life."

Kim Goodman stares down at her phone at a picture of her son. It brings a smile to her face. Now, that's the only way she'll see her baby boy.

In Spring of 2015, the Goodman's went skiing in Colorado. Luke had recently graduated from Oral Roberts University and his mother says he was curious about marijuana edibles, specifically candies.

"Within the course of two hours, he had five," Luke's mom said.

His mother said that's when the night took a turn, after Luke's cousin and girlfriend left him to go to the hot tub.

"Within minutes of the time that they walked out of the room, Luke pulled the gun and shot himself," Kim Goodman said.

"There's been some tragic results from people that have eaten more than they believe they were taking," Stillwater Police Sgt. Royce Stephens said.

Police in Stillwater say they're finding more edibles than ever.

"Now, I would say marijuana related search warrants that we do we're probably seeing edibles about 20% of the time," Sgt. Stephens said.

Kim Goodman believes edibles are dangerous and should be banned across the country.

"He rationalized to my husband and I and said, 'Mom nobody has ever died form marijuana,' he did.'"

This mother's heart now, will always be broken.

"I wouldn't want anyone to have to walk what we've walked in the loss of losing Luke," Goodman said.
