TULSA — A man who was shot in north Tulsa in 2009 died in January two weeks after he had surgery while in prison.
Tulsa police say Elza Riley, 31 years old, was shot in a drive-by in 2009 in the area of 2700 North Cincinnati.
He survived and then went to prison on drug charges in 2014.
In Dec. 2018, Riley had surgery in connection with the 2009 shooting while in prison and died two weeks later.
Officials said the bullet inside the man's body had caused a blockage. The death was classified as a homicide.
It marks the 14th homicide of 2019 in Tulsa.
