Man wanted in connection to fatal shooting of security guard, reports Tulsa police

TULSA – Authorities are looking for a man they believe is connected to a shooting death that occurred earlier this month.

Byron Penn, 31, is wanted by Tulsa police for first degree murder in connection to the death of Norman Huntley. Tulsa police describe Penn as a black male, 31 years old, 5-foot-8 and weighing around 195 pounds.

Huntley was fatally shot on October 2 at 4 a.m. near the 5900th block of East 11th Street.

Tulsa police say they recovered a video of a fight that occurred inside the Route 66 Event Center before Huntley was killed. Huntley was reportedly working security at the event center when a couple of people allegedly attempted to steal a backpack from another person inside the club. A fight ensued and those attempting to take the backpack fled to a car waiting outside. 

Patrons of the club, along with security, reportedly surrounded the car and tried to fight with the driver, says Tulsa police. They went on to say that the backpack was recovered from the vehicle as well.

Tulsa police say Huntley was at the back of the car when Penn allegedly started to fight with him. Penn then fired several shots that reportedly struck Huntley, says police, then fled.

Huntley later died as a result of those wounds.
