Tulsa Police are investigating a deadly shooting in South Tulsa that happened overnight.
Officers first responded to the Tamarack Place Apartments near 61st and South Peoria Avenue a little after 1 AM.
When the arrived, the learned a security guard was in a shootout with an individual.
Police say the guard was patrolling the area when he noticed a man who was not allowed to be on the property.
While the guard was escorting him off the premises, the man took off running, then later pulled a handgun and started shooting.
The security guard was shot in the hand and was transported to a local hospital.
The man involved in the altercation, Ronald Mason, 34, was killed in the incident.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Larry Edwards said the guard was questioned and release.
"We had a few rounds go into an apartment complex," Sgt. Edwards said. "We did have to make entry into the apartment just to make sure no one was inside and injured, but no one was inside the apartment."
Investigators are also speaking with other witnesses.
