TULSA -- Tulsa Police say a baby died on Monday morning following critical abuse.
A man is arrested after police said he brutally abused a baby, leaving the infant in critical condition.
Police said the baby's mother left Zachary Collins in charge of her three children while she went to work. Once she returned, the mother found Collins on the couch and the baby in bad condition.
She told police the infant had bruising on his forehead, lip and torso. Officers say she called Collins' mother. They determined the baby was in very critical condition and called 911. Doctors determined the infant sustained a massive brain bleed.
Police said Collins initially stated a three-year-old pushed the infant off his bed and onto the concrete floor. After being questioned more, officers say he admitted to picking up the baby, slamming his head into the wall, punching him in the stomach and then slamming him onto the couch.
Collins told police that when he slammed the baby on the couch the child fell onto the concrete floor, hitting his head. He said he picked up the baby, wiped blood off his face and put him to sleep. Police said he never contacted anyone for medical help.
Collins went to sleep and was awoken about seven hours later. Police said the suspect admitted to drinking a six pack of beer and half a pint of tequila.
Police said Collins was frustrated with the child for not allowing him to sleep. He was arrested and booked into jail for child abuse and neglect. Those charges changed Monday morning to Child Abuse Murder.
