TULSA – The man accused of sexually assaulting two women, one of whom he met on a well-known dating website, has been released by police.
Daniel Stegeman, 33, was held on two counts of rape in the first degree and two counts of kidnapping. He was taken into custody this week in Sand Springs at his reported place of business located at 204 East Morrow Road.
The first incident, involving a 20-year-old woman, was reported on July 21, says police.
The woman told police that she was walking in the area of 6200 South Union when she felt a knife on her back. She said that suspect forced her into his vehicle, bound her hands with duct tape and raped her more than once. She also told police that suspect threatened her with a handgun saying he would kill her.
The second incident, reports police, occurred on August 7 when the suspect scheduled to meet up with a 24-year-old woman he met on the Plenty of Fish dating website, reports Tulsa police.
The second victim told police that the two planned to meet at a local gas station. When the victim arrived, she said the suspect approached her with a gun and forced her into his vehicle. Then he drove to a field and raped the second victim more than once, says police.
Police say they arrested Stegeman at his place of business after he was identified in a lineup by both of the victims. Stegeman was then released after DNA testing proved his innocence on August 12.
