TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa musician Branjae is standing up for domestic violence survivors. Her song “Street Light” is about her experience being a survivor of domestic abuse.

“The feeling that I felt about myself when I chose myself over an abusive situation and I really realized my worth is where the song came into play," she said.

Branjae is getting national recognition for her work. Billboard magazine recently wrote an article highlighting her new music video for the song. She said the video shows a strong visual that other survivors can relate to.

“I wanted to show community support behind victims and survivors when they decide to leave that they have help around the community,” she said.

Branjae’s song is helping the community in other ways. 10% of her profits will go to the Domestic Violence Intervention Services in Tulsa. It provides services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. Their goal is to end the stigma around domestic violence.

“People often think that domestic violence only affects certain people," said Molly Bryant, under served outreach advocate for DVIS. "And so that the more survivors talk about it and share their experiences, the more it does reduce the stigma.”

Branjae says her next project will be a prequel to Streetlight. 10% of those profits will also go to DVIS.

“What I wanted to do was sort of campaign this concept if you support and invest money into the artist, that you’re actually making a difference in the community at the same time," she said.
