2 News Oklahoma's CJ Maclin visited Sycamore this morning to report on the widespread damage left behind by Sunday night's tornado.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office told 2 News that one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a tornado toppled trees, damaged homes, and shut down Highway 75.
Power companies arrived early Monday morning to restore electricity to the community.
A viewer captured video of the tornado forming. At one home, the storm tore off the roof and flipped a boat in the backyard, though no one inside was injured.
Sycamore resident John Rettmann told 2 News that he spent thousands of dollars on a brand-new shop outside the home he purchased just a couple of months ago.
“Bought the house two months ago. Closed on it two months ago. Built a brand-new shop. Wrote the check on Friday, moved the boat and the camper out Saturday, Sunday at 7:15, it was all gone,” Rettmann said.
“It looked like these two clouds just kind of converged, so I ran in the house, and I grabbed Ashley and told her we needed to go. I don’t know how far ahead of it we were, but we were very fortunate,” Rettmann said.
Rettmann and his wife jumped in their car and drove away from the tornado.
Up the same road, the Beurskens family took shelter in their storm shelter. Barry Beurskens told me they lost a brand-new camper used only twice, suffered damage to their machine shed, had three trees downed, and had their barn decimated.
"And the hail, it sounded like it was the size of basketballs. It was loud,” Beurskens said.
“The cows were right out here. I was looking at them through our garage window, and they were acting really weird. They were balling each other, and it wasn’t a normal thing that cows do. And I told my son I said we’re going to get hit. And it wasn’t just a few minutes later that we did,” Beurskens said.
