Sonic is planning layoffs at their headquarters in Oklahoma City.
Sonic officials haven't said how many people will be laid off or how many were offered transfers to Atlanta.
Oklahoma City's Mayor David Holt responded to the announcement.
"That's a tough day, and I feel for them," Holt said. "There are some people who are having to find new careers."
Sonic officials say hundreds of employees will still work at the Oklahoma City headquarters.
They say the changes are happening, because of "integration efforts to inspire brands" and say layoffs have nothing to do with sales or profits.
Inspire Brands, Inc., which owns Arby's and Buffalo Wild Wings, bought Sonic in late 2018.
