Some artists are getting their kicks on Route 66, with a new mural.

They're working on this creative design near 11th and Wheeling.

The project came to life after the Kendall Whittier Project wanted a Route 66 themed mural at that location.

The work emphasizes some of the classic road signs on the historic highway.

One of the artists says this type of art form is becoming very popular.

Phil Shafer, owner and lead designer, tells us "nationally murals are blowing up. It's a huge thing and I'm glad to be a part of that. A wave of artists that are bringing art to inner-cities and different locations all around the country.

Shafer himself is from Kansas City, and says Tulsa has just as great a mural scene as back home.
