JENKS, Okla. -- The look of one community is changing, as more development is going up along the banks of the Arkansas River.
City leaders held a grand opening Wednesday for THRIVE Jenks, a new complex that includes 168 apartments and other amenities near Riverfront Drive and Aquarium Place.
Crews recently finished building the large, modern apartment complex, and nearby they're still working on other development. That includes a new location for Andolini's Pizzeria at Riverwalk Crossing. The owner plans to open the pizza restaurant close to the Flying Tee later this month.
Many are wondering, though, when construction will start on the proposed Simon Outlet Mall in Jenks. The city recently finished adding several roundabouts, paid for by a voter-approved bond, near the mall's proposed location on the south side of the Creek Turnpike.
Simon projects its planned outlet mall in Jenks to attract about 3 million shoppers ever year. Steve Eaton, who owns River City Trading Post on Main Street, said he expects to see some of those shoppers browsing the aisles in his business, too.
"If we get five percent of that (business)," Eaton said, "you're talking 50,000 people or so. There's no telling how many people just to wander from the mall to here."
